Aaron Judge Home Run Record Tracker: How to Watch As He Chases Roger Maris’s 61
The Yankees slugger is 10 away from tying the American League record of 61 home runs in a season, set in 1961.Judge's 51 home runs so far this season is just one fewer than his career high set in 2017. Aaron Judge hit his 51st home run of the season against the Angels on Tuesday night, putting him only 10 away from the American League single-season record that was set by Roger Maris with the Yankees in 1961. The night before that, Judge slammed home his 50th.
There have been only eight 60-homer seasons in MLB history. In 2001, Barry Bonds set the single-season record with 73 dingers, just three years after Cardinals slugger Mark McGwire became the first player ever to hit 62 in a season; he finished the 1998 season with 70. That year, Cubs outfielder Sammy Sosa also passed Maris and finished with 66, the first of his record three seasons with at least 60 home runs. McGwire is the only other player with multiple 60-homer seasons.
Judge has hit seven home runs in 13 games against Tampa Bay this season. However, all seven of those came over the first three months, and the Rays are a better pitching team now than they were during the first half. Over 37 games since the All-Star break, the Rays have allowed 30 home runs, the fewest of any AL team.Friday, Sept. 2 at 7:10 p.m.TV coverage:Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 7:05 p.m. TV coverage:Saturday, Sept. 10 at 1:05 p.m.
