Since the start-up MyBodegaOnline launched last Monday CEO Jose Bello has been working non-stop to connect with the 16,000 bodega owners he estimates are in New York City.

Bodegas are in a unique position to support their community with food and essential items. By focusing on deliveries, the bodegas can practice social distancing.

This is how it works. MyBodegaOnline has a preloaded list of 316 items that most bodegas have—from sandwiches and smoothies to soap and toilet paper. The prices they suggest are average: $3 for a bacon, egg, and cheese, for example. The bodegas then customize the list and pricing. The onboarding process takes around 3 hours, Bello says. So far fifty-five bodegas have signed up.

Mubarez is working as a liaison between the merchants and the startup, encouraging the bodegas to take advantage of the free service.
