Citizens all over Cumberland County want the proceeds to support our less fortunate neighbors.
Cumberland County Controller, Al Whitcomb offers uses of the proceeds of the sale of Claremont Nursing Home. He contends that the interests of the “silent majority” be considered. He criticizes the “vocal few” and “lobbyists” for “advocating” the county turn over the proceeds of the Claremont sale “to an as yet identified non-profit for unspecified uses.”
Mr. Whitcomb is entitled to his own opinion but not his own facts. No person has ever suggested anything other than the county retain all of the funds. If he wishes to dispute this, he is welcome to offer proof. Mr. Whitcomb also contends the “silent majority of county residents are hard at work at one, and for some two, jobs trying to provide themselves and their families.” I would welcome Mr. Whitcomb showing he truly understands the concerns of working people. He could prepare weekly timesheets which he can make public verifying how many hours he is at the courthouse actually working for his full-time tax funded salary.
