US consumers are increasingly willing to share data with health insurers — and that bodes well for US payers:

We predict interactive health plans predicated on health data will become the new norm in US health insurance. US payers mostly offer wearable-based incentive programs as ancillary programs employer clients and eligible customers can opt into. But we expect these programs will move from the fringes of health plans to become an integral part of benefit design and healthcare coverage.

As an example of what this could look like, US life insurer John Hancock announced in September 2018 that it would stop underwriting traditional life insurance and instead only sell policies that track fitness and health data through wearables and smartphones, Reuters. Customers who hit fitness and exercise targets can earn rewards and up to a 15% discount on their premium in some cases.Digital Health Pro
