The situation in Ukraine now makes learning about nuclear arms control 'more important to understand what has happened in the past, for historical context, and to a small degree even offers some hope for the future.'

, his just-published book, is set in the Nuclear Age as it began to unfold and up to the end of 2022. It is, IMHO, destined to be a classic, likely the definitive account of how we got into our present tight and terrifying spot.

Of course, this book has been in a sense overtaken by recent events, notably the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian War, its current horrors, and existential nuclear dangers, but this doesn’t in any way diminish its value.

All this is more than a bit discouraging, making it more important to understand what has happened in the past, for historical context, and to a small degree even some hope for the future. Here,is simply the best guide available and doubtless will be for some time to come. Its level of detail is immense but never boring, including absorbing interviews with participants in the various key events as they unfolded.
