Carlos Correa’s anticipated introduction to San Francisco took a sharp and unexpected detour with news Tuesday thatduring his physical exam. The deviation landed him, shockingly, with the New York Mets on a reported 12-year, $310 million deal less than a day later.
While we don’t know what issue had the Giants concerned enough to balk at the deal, the superstar shortstop came with a long history of injuries that’s elicited concern about his durability.Correa, 28, most notably missed significant time with the Houston Astros in the 2018 and 2019 seasons with back injuries. He was out six weeks from June 28 to Aug. 10 in 2018 and struggled after returning, hitting just .180 in the second half of the season.
