There are still sci-fi films to get excited about.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Due to studios' refusal to pay artists their fair share, Dune 2 has been delayed from November of this year to March 2024. This is heartbreaking news for any filmgoer, as Dune Part 2 was one of the biggest and most exciting movies releasing in 2023. However, since the stars of the film won't be able to promote the movie, Warner Bros. has decided to push it back until after the strikes have hopefully been resolved.
9 The Creator - September 29 The Creator marks Gareth Edwards' first movie since the Star Wars spinoff Rogue One. This time, Edwards is creating his own original sci-fi story, about an ongoing war between man and the AI they created. Edwards' movies always have a grand sense of scale and use special effects in creative and often jaw-dropping ways. Needless to say, it's very exciting to see him take on an original project.
7 Fingernails - October 27/November 3 In a similar vein to Foe, Fingernails is a sci-fi romance movie about a woman who decides to join a mysterious program that tests the presence of romantic love in couples. Fingernails has an all-star cast that includes Jessie Buckley, Riz Ahmed, Jeremy Allen White, Annie Murphy, and Luke Wilson. The film is directed by Greek filmmaker Christos Nikou, but this is his first English-language film. It looks like a delightfully bizarre and clever sci-fi story.
4 Godzilla Minus One - Dec 1 With Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong, Legendary's Monsterverse has kept Godzilla on the big screen. However, there hasn't been a proper Godzilla movie from Japan's Toho Studios since 2016's Shin Godzilla. That changes this winter, as Toho and filmmaker Takashi Yamazaki are rebooting the iconic monster with Godzilla Minus One.
