The Guidepost report notes that abuse survivors were also contacting Boto and other SBC officials over the years to raise concerns about incidents at Southern Baptist churches that hadn’t reached the court system.
“We need to be very mindful that the world is watching,” SBC president Ed Litton said last week during a discussion on the report, including a debate about how to best release Boto’s list. “They don’t need to see business as usual.” “The Guidepost report is about complaints that were made directly to the executive committee that they didn’t share with anyone,” Biniazan said.
Many of those who contacted the SBC did so because they said they were too traumatized to come to terms with their abuses until the statute of limitations, their window for filing criminal charges, had passed.
