Paul Becker of Carl Becker & Son is keeping a family tradition dating back to the 1850's alive: violin making.

CHICAGO -- Paul Becker of Carl Becker & Son in Chicago makes no bones about his father's legacy of violin making.

"My grandfather, Carl G. Becker, started making in 1901 at the age of 14," said Becker, who also started making instruments at the same age."My father learned from him and I learned from my father and grandfather." "I'm lucky to live in Chicago," said Rachel Barton Pine, a world-renown violinist whose instrument was made by Giuseppe Guarneri in the 1700s."There are people who have to fly to another city to go to a qualified luthier but I just have to hop in a cab and go 10 minutes away."
