San Diego State will be looking to get into an offensive rhythm while once again dealing with the elements
Games against FCS teams are supposed to be confidence builders, lopsided contests against overmatched opponents.Sometimes it goes as planned, as with last year’s 48-21 win over Towson or in 2016 with a 31-0 victory over New Hampshire.And sometimes it’s a downright disaster, as with SDSU’s 40-19 loss to Eastern Illinois in 2013.
If Idaho State’s opener against UNLV two weeks ago is any guide, the Bengals could be just the opponent for SDSU to perk up its passing. The SDSU offensive line should more than hold its own against Idaho State, allowing Burmeister to get comfortable in the pocket and locate his receivers. This is an excellent opportunity for SDSU running backs to put up a big rushing number; UNLV rushed for 149 yards on 33 carries against Idaho State.
Hunter is poised to emerge as Idaho State’s top running back after averaging more than 3 1/2 yards a carry in 2021, when he totaled 370 yards on 101 attempts.
