The Cowboys say they met a need for big and physical players by drafting the 330-pound Rogers.
Vanderbilt quarterback Ken Seals and Auburn defensive lineman Justin Rogers dive for a loose ball in the second half of an NCAA college football game Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023, in Nashville, Tenn. “We want to get big,’’ Cowboys vice president of player personnel Will McClay said. “We want to be physical.
“Justin Rogers is a big nasty from Auburn with some length that can play that big inside nose tackle position.’’Coming out of Oak Park High School in Oak Park, Mich., Rogers was ranked the No. 1 overall recruit in the state his senior season. He had offers from Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and more, but went with Kentucky, saying he felt an “instant connection” with the Wildcats.
In other words, he’s big, strong and violent. His job is going to be to muck up the middle of the line of scrimmage and offer help in the run game.“A person that’s going to be violent in the middle,” Rogers said when asked what he brings to the team. “A hard worker and a person that’s going to come in every day ready to work.
