5 spring cleaning tips from Marie Kondo to declutter your financial life:

If you’re ready to put your financial house in order, we’ve borrowed five tips from Marie Kondo to help you get started.Do you keep paper copies of every account statement, utility bill, and expense receipt? Consider storing these documents in the cloud instead. There are a number of cloud storage solutions and mobile apps available to transform your paper receipts into digital files and expense reports, so you no longer have to spend hours hunting through or organizing paper receipts.

Discarding doesn’t stop with paper. If you have credit card debt and a goal of yours is to eliminate it, develop a plan to pay off debt. Tackle the high interest debt first. It’s even worth the time and effort of calling the credit card company in an attempt to negotiate a lower interest rate. The worst they can tell you is no. Once you’ve eliminated your credit card debt, you’ll no longer be paying the interest charges for the debt.

Next, organize your spending. View past bank statements and/or credit card statements, and organize your expenses into categories. There are a number of online apps that will track spending by category if your bank or credit union does not offer budgeting software. Determine whether or not your money is being spent on the things that matter most to you and your family.
