Yaseem Jenkins, who was 11 months old at the time of the shooting, was struck four times including once in the head, according to authorities.

A Philadelphia toddler who was allegedly used as a “human shield” by his father during a 2019 shooting has died.

“We are awaiting a medical examiner’s report on the cause of death, but we have reason to believe his cause of death is his original injury,” Krasner said.when his father, Nafes Monroe, used him as a shield during a drug deal with Francisco Ortiz in North Philadelphia. Monroe tried to pay for drugs using counterfeit money, which led to Ortiz firing shots. Ortiz was charged with attempted murder.as he was struck four times, including the head and chest.

Krasner offered condolences to the toddler’s family. He also said multiple units have been in contact with Jenkins’ family to offer support, including offering assistance with funeral expenses. He died on Tuesday, his family said on a GoFundMe page.
