A 3-year-old was shot in the face as his mother was taking an afternoon stroll Sunday in Philadelphia.
Philadelphia police say the incident took place after 5 p.m. when a 23-year-old woman was walking down the 1500 block of Taney Street in Grays Ferry neighborhood. While carrying her 3-year-old son, she heard two to three gunshots in the area, according to a report fromWhen the mother looked down at her son, she realized he had been struck in the cheek by the gunfire, police said. The mother told police she noticed two men dressed in dark clothing running from the scene.
Police say a woman who was driving in the area spotted the mother yelling and running while carrying her son. The woman drove them to the nearest fire station for help, according to police, who added that the child was transported to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and is in stable condition.There have been no arrests made and no weapons recovered after the incident.
