A 24-year-old man has died after being shot in the chest Sunday evening in Lagrange Township, according to the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said Christopher D. Sayers Jr., of Elyria, was pronounced dead at the scene, located in the 17000 block of Whitehead Road.
The shooting appears to have occurred during a child custody exchange, according to a news release, where there was reportedly a fight between Sayers and the boyfriend of his child’s mother. “It should be noted that this is not a random incident. All individuals involved in this incident were known to each other,” the sheriff’s office wrote in the news release.
Deputies responded to the shooting around 8:35 p.m. Sunday; the sheriff’s office said two guns were recovered at the scene. While on the way, the sheriff’s office said the boyfriend told dispatch he believed Sayers had died from his injuries.Charges have not been filed, and the shooting remains under investigation, according to the release. Most Read
