At least 12 candidates have announced a run for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, setting up a crowded field ahead of the first primary debate next month. Former President Donald Trump still holds a strong lead in polling despite multiple criminal indictments, so will any candidate be able to unseat him? We look at exactly who is running and examine the different visions of the Republican party they are pitching to voters.
There are certain things most people do when they're running for president. Take former Vice President Mike Pence. He celebrated the 4th of July in Iowa. He marched in a parade, shook a lot of hands and even visited an ice cream shop in Le Mars, which, by the way, calls itself the ice cream capital of the world. Who knew? These are the kinds of things you do to get in the good graces of early state voters. But Pence did not get an entirely warm welcome in the Hawkeye State.
