Buyers love the RAV4 Hybrid, but Toyota has an all-new Prius, and you could get a nicer trim for similar money. Which is better? We dig into the specs.

Both vehicles feature Toyota's 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. If you go to higher trim levels, the Prius is offered with Toyota's new 12.3-inch touchscreen while the RAV4's displays top out at 10.5 inches. The SUV has a higher ceiling for audio, though; RAV4s can be had with an 11-speaker JBL audio setup with a subwoofer, whereas a top-trim Prius only has an eight-speaker system.

As for additional content, the Prius has a slight advantage, given you can afford a middle-tier trim for similar cash to a base RAV4 Hybrid. The Prius has larger 19-inch wheels, LED taillights, a wireless charging pad, and a cargo cover to start. Buyers will really notice its faux leather upholstery and heated power driver's seat in place of the RAV4 Hybrid's cloth-covered, manually adjustable seats. Opting for the smaller hatchback also yields double the USB ports .

Take note, though: As a newer vehicle, the Prius has Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 , which includes improved radar and camera sensors that enable better low-light pedestrian detection and superior lane recognition. Toyota also includes blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert on the Prius XLE while those features are an optional extra on the RAV4 Hybrid LE.

Although the RAV4 Hybrid earns a 2022 IIHS Top Safety Pick, the base LE trim doesn't include the upgraded LED headlights required to qualify. It does, however, carry a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA. The Prius has not yet been evaluated by either safety organization. This is the reason we're able to compare these two. If you go into a Toyota dealership with a little over $30K and you want a hybrid, these are your best two options. The 2023 RAV4 Hybrid LE starts at $31,560.

We look forward to driving these two back to back, but until then, our money is going toward the new Prius.
