INDIANAPOLIS — The top marching bands in the state of Indiana invaded downtown Indianapolis on Saturday. state finals were held at Lucas Oil Stadium on Oct. 28. The bands competing are bands entered in ISSMA's open class.
There are two classes of bands in ISSMA. The Scholastic class, which held its state finals on Oct. 14 at Franklin Central, was created in 2013 to take into account band size and school enrollment. It's meant to separate smaller bands at schools with large enrollment from the largest bands with around the same enrollment numbers.
The groups performing are separated into classes based on school size. The top-ten schools in each class compete for the championship. Open Class B is scheduled to perform from 10 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Open Class C is scheduled from 1:20 p.m. to 3:35 p.m., Open Class D then performs from 4:40 p.m. to 6:55 before Open Class A caps off the day performing between 8 p.m. and 10:15 p.m. Awards ceremonies will take place after every school has performed in each class.
