2023 Fantasy Hockey Team Previews: Columbus Blue Jackets
In one of the more shocking twists of the 2022 offseason, Gaudreau signed a seven-year, $68.25 million contract with the Blue Jackets after a career-high 115-point season in Calgary. Reaching both the 40-goal and 100-plus point plateaus for the first time in his career, Gaudreau was a fantasy god in 2021-22, ranking third in league scoring, third in assists, 15th in goals, first in plus/minus , sixth in game-winning goals , and 17th in shots .
Gaudreau has ranked eighth in both assists and points in the last five years. Gaudreau had great chemistry with Elias Lindholm and Matthew Tkachuk, playing nearly 1200 5v5 minutes together in the previous three seasons. The Blue Jackets do not have a centre of Lindholm’s quality, so expecting Gaudreau to repeat his 100-point season in year-one is a tough ask. Nevertheless, he should be a safe late-second/early-third-round pick that goes over a point-per-game.
