This wasn't official by any means—but it was fun.

This"race" took place on a gravel road instead of a concrete surface, and both trucks were fully kitted out with overland gear, tire pressures were low because we were off-roading, and battery/gas tanks levels weren't checked. There was no finish line, either. This drag race was just for fun, not for numbers. With that out of the way, which truck pulled ahead?With senior features editor Jonny Lieberman behind the wheel of the Rivian R1T, I got comfortable in the Ram TRX.
With the exhaust and the engine roaring as the TRX gained speed, my back and neck were smashed against the seat back and headrest. I had him! But my initial faith in the TRX quickly vanished, as the R1T's electric power instantly put it in front of the Ram.
Now obviously, we knew going into our little race the R1T was a more powerful truck; 835 horsepower is more than 702 any day of the week. But we were surprised by how large that gap is in real life—it feels huge. The immediate torque delivery of the electric Rivian put it up front in the blink of an eye, and although the TRX's growl continues to scratch a primal itch every time we hear it, the Rivian was the clear winner in this unofficial sprint.
