The man was a 2021 graduate of a private school in Mercer County and had committed to play basketball at a Division II college in Connecticut.
The teens, a 16-year-old male from Pennington, and a 17-year-old male from Hopewell, were arrested Friday afternoon and were charged with murder, felony murder, robbery and weapons offenses and were lodged at the Middlesex County Youth Detention Center pending their detention hearings, the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement.
Officers from the Hopewell Police Department were called to the Hopewell Valley Nature Preserve off Harbourton-Woodsville Road around 7 p.m. on Dec. 17 and found a white Mercedes C300 on a trail with a man slumped over in the driver’s seat, the office said. The man, later identified as Philip Urban of Manalapan, was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound a short time later.
