BREAKING NEWS: LAPD Chief Michel Moore confirmed the suspects, ages 15 and 16, were taken into custody. The younger boy is believed to have sold a fentanyl-laced pill to two girls at the school and will be booked for manslaughter. Latest details:

A 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter for allegedly selling a fentanyl-laced drug to two high school students -- one of whom fatally overdosed -- and a 16-year-old boy was arrested for allegedly selling narcotics to a third student at a nearby park, authorities announced Thursday.

The 15-year-old boy will be booked for manslaughter, Moore told reporters at a news conference. He was allegedly found to be in possession of additional pills when taken into custody. Both suspects are students at APEX Academy, a charter school located on the Bernstein campus, and investigators believe they are close associates, the LAPD said. Neither one was publicly identified because they are minors.

He found his stepdaughter suffering from apparent overdose symptoms, although she was still conscious and was able to tell him that one of her friends was in a girls' bathroom, officials said. The man and a school employee found the other girl unresponsive in the bathroom, where she died.
