The 18-year-old was not identified, but police said he was a New Milford resident and student at New Milford High School.

"I had English with him right before -- he was really ince to everyone," said Aram Bavoukian,"I had classes with him throughout my high school years. The emotions are hard to describe."

Detectives are working with the Bergen County Medical Examiner's Office to determine what happened. They are looking into the specific reasons why the teen entered the water, even though there is a sign posted at the edge forbidding swimming. Scott Lawrence Bortnick, who recorded video of the search, said he heard at the scene that the man entered the water to try and retrieve a soccer ball for children.
