The employees, who work in a municipal complex in Bergen County, have filed workers compensation petitions

Updated: Oct. 26, 2023, 10:26 a.m.The Palisades Park Municipal Complex on Broad Avenue received dozens of fire code violations and health complaints about mold that have yet to be addressed, officials said.Fifteen employees in the Bergen County borough of Palisades Park have filed workers’ compensation petitions, claiming they were sickened by mold in the municipal complex, according to an attorney representing the workers.

The attorney included Park in the most recent letter because the councilman was appointed in September to oversee the mold remediation committee. The employees work in the building’s administrative offices and have been afflicted with “classic symptoms” of mold exposure, including respiratory infections and breathing problems, Brosnick told NJ Advance Media on Thursday.

Austin Ashley, director of public works, ordered his crew to abandon the second floor of the building in August, noting 46 violations of state fire codes that had not been remedied by borough officials. “The heating ventilation and air-conditioning system is inoperable and a temporary air conditioning unit is inadequate,” wrote Bobrowski, who works with the state’s Public Employees Occupational Safety and Health Program.
