If you’ve been to a movie theater at any point in the last few months, then you’ve seen a fairly unusual sight: One movie poster after another with inaccurate release information. Thanks to the pandemic, almost every single blockbuster scheduled for the second half of 2020 has been pushed back, leaving their posters — some of them very faded and sad-looking — pushing release that are no longer happening.
The sheer number of out-of-date one-sheets in 2020 is unprecedented, but movie posters hyping releases that were later called off is not. Every once in a while, for one reason or another — production delays, bad test screenings — a movie doesn’t open as planned, leaving behind these orphan images as the only record of the changes.
