In an unprecedented joint plea, 13 presidential centers call for a return to democratic norms.
The joint statement, supported by presidential libraries and centers going back to Herbert Hoover, doesn’t call out anyone by name. Kramer acknowledged it might be interpreted as a repudiation of former President Donald Trump but emphasized it’s not targeted at him.
“The people who oversee elections are our fellow citizens. They’re human beings. They are patriotic Americans,” he said.Advertisement The statement was signed by the Hoover Presidential Foundation, Roosevelt Institute, Truman Library Institute, John F. Kennedy Library Foundation, LBJ Foundation, Richard Nixon Foundation, Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation, Carter Center, Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute, George & Barbara Bush Foundation, Clinton Foundation, George W. Bush Presidential Center and the Obama Presidential Center.
