Screen Rant presents a comprehensive, ranked list of every arc from IDW Publishing's ongoing Sonic the Hedgehog comic book series. Spoilers below!
IDW's Sonic the Hedgehog comic book series currently comprises sixty-four issues, spanning three complete sagas. Each arc is relatively short, many of them consisting of four issues. The entirety of the second saga – Metal Virus – could be considered one arc, as it is truly one massive event as opposed to the other sagas. Most of Metal Virus' arcs have been combined here for that reason.
12 "Chao Races And Badnik Bases" This arc suffers in part because it followed the incredibly well-delivered Metal Virus Saga. Although Metal Virus is immediately proceeded by "Out of the Blue," the purpose of "Blue" was transitory, setting up what was to come. What eventually came in "Chao Races and Badnik Bases" feels lackluster by comparison.
9 "Fallout!" IDW's Sonic couldn't have started at a more intriguing place. It begins in the wake of a massive war, the majority of which Sonic actually missed, because he was in captivity most of the time; similarly, the franchise's main antagonist Dr. Eggman is missing. Moreover, there are odd happenings, suggest a new threat. These tantalizing plot points and burning questions aside, the actual starting point is the main reason why this opening doesn't chart higher.
6 "Urban Warfare" The events in Dr. Eggman's mysterious tower from "Test Run!" are finally justified in "Urban Warfare," albeit in a way that undermines the need for the tower's worst aspect, the rooms with the unfinished Badniks. The long-awaited reunion of Whisper the Wolf and Tangle the Lemur, after the Wolf's desertion, results in well-executed friction between both characters.
