5-acre wildfire in Campbell Park area of Anchorage now 25% contained
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A large wildfire is burning in the Campbell Park area of Anchorage.
The fire, north of Dowling Road and west of Elmore Road, has reached 13.1 acres and is 30% contained, according to an update from theOEM said 17 Anchorage Fire Department units, two helicopters, three air tankers, the Division of Forestry and JBER fire crews responded to the fire. Four AFD crews, APD and the Division of Forestry remain on the scene. The JBER crew has been released.“Responders estimate it will be 3-4 days to fully extinguish the fire including hot spot clean up,” OEM wrote in its Thursday evening update. “Roads will be opening to local traffic but please continue to allow space for crews to work safely.”
Temporary flight restrictions were in place at Merrill Field because of the fire, but they have since been lifted. The AFD has set up an emergency operations line for public information about the fire. It can be reached at 907-343-4701.This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
