The Riddler's backstory improves the Batman.
Contains spoilers for The Riddler: Year One #1-6!While working on The Batman, Paul Dano developed a complex backstory for his villainous Edward Nashton - a story that has now been told in the DC comic The Riddler: Year One. The series includes numerous reveals about the character, and the Gotham he lives in, throughout its six issues. From his plans to his motivations, this comic uncovers a few secrets fans of the film should be aware of.
9 The Riddler Discovered Gotham's Corruption Thanks to His Job As an orphan, Edward didn't have access to the best education, or very many resources. After potentially suffering abuse in foster homes, and aging out of the orphanage, Edward attended community college. He was quickly recommended for a position at an accounting firm, thanks to his affinity for numbers.
5 The Riddler Always Planned To Be Arrested In the film, Edward Nashton is identified and found easily by Gotham's police, after Falcone is "brought into the light" and shot by the villain. Upon his arrest, Edward is taken to Arkham State Hospital, where he finally meets Batman, and converses with him. However, it was part of his plan to be arrested and placed in that specific facility. His mother was in Arkham, and that is where she died, without him ever having met her.
