10 detained after suspected smuggling boat found near Sunset Cliffs [Breaking]
Ten Mexican nationals were detained by Border Patrol agents after a suspected smuggling boat was found in Sunset Cliffs on Sunday night by border agents, officials said.
The boat was spotted around 10 p.m. as it was traveling north toward Sunset Cliffs, said Supervisory Border Patrol Agent Diana Ibarra. The boat came into shore near Garbage Beach, which is near Ladera Street and Cornish Drive. When agents arrived, they found seven men and three women had gotten off the boat, she said.“The ten individuals were encountered as they ran from the beached vessel,” Ibarra said.
The undocumented immigrants were transported to the Imperial Beach Border Patrol station to be processed. The boat will be seized, she said.
