The least likely candidates for the Avengers.
As Marvel's premier superhero team, the Avengers has had its fair share of antiheroes among its ranks, but not every antihero would make a good fit for Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Marvel antiheroes are always compelling characters because they're more complex, making them seem more relatable to audiences. Not quite a villain, not quite a hero, antiheroes seem to fall in the middle of good and bad, with one side sometimes winning over the other.
9 Paladin Bound by the highest bidder for his services rather than any sense of morality or calling, Paladin is a mercenary who first appeared in Daredevil #150 in 1978. The fact that he'll do anything for the sake of money alone would tempt the Avengers to stamp a big fat "rejection" on Paladin's Avengers application, but there are more reasons why he would be an awful fit for the team.
7 Solo Solo is dedicated to anti-terrorism and protecting others, which is something the Avengers would support. However, the means that Solo employs to achieve his goals are in opposition to the superhero team. He has tunnel vision in making sure justice is served, but his own form of justice usually involves killing, putting him at odds with a majority of superheroes.
5 Gambit Struggling between his more heroic side and his thieving past, Gambit is too much of a liability for the moral members of the Avengers. In between serving with the X-Men, Gambit would go back to being an agent for the Thieves Guild. Gambit, along with the other X-Men members, did join forces with the Avengers to stop the Phoenix Force, so the two are capable of working together.
