"We want to be part of the 1 Million March and we want to help parents with their rights because right now parental rights in schools are being undermined by the government, by the school boards and by everyone who is pushing the gender and SOGI ideology…in schools," LeBlanc said. LeBlanc isn't sure how many people might attend but has heard support from many people, including parents who are concerned about what their children are learning in school about gender and sexual identity.
Merryfield decided to organize the Celebrate Diversity counter-protest to show there is support for gender and sexuality education in schools and to dispel misconceptions about what this is. "If they haven't had that piece of education, if they don't have the representation of visibility from anywhere else, they will think they were the only one. So, fundamentally, teaching or exposing young children to the ideas of gender, allow those that are transgender not to lose their lives."
