The levy could generate over £1.7million in tax
Lancaster City Council’s cabinet is to discuss a report about applying council tax premiums on up to around 1,000 second homes and empty homes across the district.
In England, another property-linked tax procedure change is due this April. It will place more responsibility on property owners to provide evidence of commercial lettings to justify business rates rather than council tax. A report for this week’s cabinet meeting states: “Second home ownership across the county is significant and is recognised to have a negative impact on the supply of homes to meet local housing need.
